Could it be that if I, as an employee, know that what I do is actually visible all the way up to the board and directly influences the strategy set by the board and the owners, I’ll become more engaged?
That’s a question I often ask myself. Because, after all, we all want to feel that what we do matters—that our efforts contribute to something bigger, something that makes a difference to the bigger picture.
The common thread that is often lost
At Rolf, we know that we’ve built the best support system on the market for driving employee engagement and development toward the organization’s goals.
But to be honest, we’ve sometimes struggled to create a consistent thread all the way from the boardroom to the CEO, on to the next level of management, and out to every employee.
And if we look around us, we’re hardly alone.
In fact, I don’t know anyone who manages to cover the entire route.
Perhaps that is precisely one of the biggest challenges facing organizations today, both large and small.
What if the board really saw its employees?
What if, when the board and management make decisions, they also had a genuine understanding of their employees’ thoughts, ideas, and actions?
To me, that’s a really nice idea.
Because, in the end, it's all about us together.
Every person in the organization is there for a reason.
Each person contributes their expertise, their experiences, and their daily choices, and together we influence the likelihood of achieving our mission through:
- Our Daily Decisions
- How We Carry Out Our Processes
- How We Live Out Our Values
- How We Follow Up and Learn
- How we reflect on our performance and take responsibility for our development
Is it really that hard?
When you break it down, it doesn't sound complicated. Yet it seems difficult to put into practice.
A while ago, a wise person said to me:
“If you succeed in establishing a clear link between each individual’s actions and the organization’s strategic goals, then you have created something unique.”
I truly believe that’s where the key lies.
When every individual—regardless of their role—understands that what I’m doing right now affects the bigger picture.
That every reflection, every activity, and every action is connected to our shared direction.
That’s when we move forward.
Together.
