5 ways to punch today in the face

Everyone has those days of the week where they just don’t feel motivated in the slightest. Some may experience that on the dreaded Mondays, others have important deadlines every Friday so stress starts building up. Here are 5 ways to punch that day in the face and turning those days around!

1. Sleep, don’t Snooze

Working late hours, starting very early or maybe even both may be needed from time to time. But that doesn’t mean it makes you more productive. Making sure you get enough sleep is very important to have the maximum amount of energy and focus needed to tackle the day head on. According to the National Sleep Foundation, missed sleep cannot be recovered by sleeping more the next day. So stop hitting the snooze button as this will only make the day worse. Get out of bed when that alarm starts buzzing!

2. Start moving

There is an age old saying, “A fit body means a fit mind” and it is actually true. To really optimise your mind to focus and perform, regular exercise is of key importance. Regular workouts can lead to improved attention span, enhanced memory and provide stress relieve. Luckily for you that doesn’t mean that you have to go to the gym every day after work. Regular exercise can be taking the bike to work or going for a 20 minute morning run. These things don’t require major time investments upfront but will mak

4. Don’t multi-task

As much as we like to think we can do this, we can’t. According to a study done by the University of California Irvine, our brains take 23 minutes to focus back on a task we got distracted from. There is a plethora of tasks we need to get to and finish every day but jumping back and forth from one to another is very counterproductive if you realise you lose half an hour of productivity every time you do this. Rid yourself from distractions! Close social media, put your phone away that is not your pocket and don’t answer mails. Set yourself a timer and do 1 hour of uninterrupted work. Make sure to tell your colleagues to not disturb you unless it is urgent and can’t wait. This will focus your mind on the task at hand and you’ll see that you can check off more boxes at the end of the day!

5. Make a Punch list!

We often have the need to see our progress to feel satisfied with our work. Of course not everything can be done in a day or even a week but it is important to balance big projects with small attainable goals. At the beginning of each day, make a punch list of tasks that can be completed and have a box to check. Finishing a to-do list will feel amazing and give a sense of accomplishment!
